Who is doing this?

Emilie and Yo have both made medicine drums. They have been running events to support people’s soul journey and are excited to share the love of the drum with you.

Why would I want to make a drum?

Crafting things with our hands is a key part of what makes us human. Craft is an alchemical process of taking ordinary objects (animal skin and wood) and making something extraordinary (a drum). Frame drums in particular are considered to be one of the oldest known musical instruments and have been used since prehistoric times as sacred tools to connect with the divine.

This workshop is an opportunity to create an object that is imbued with conscious intent and emotion. You will experience a shamanic drum journey at the beginning of the workshop as an opportunity to connect with the animal whose skin you are crafting with. We will also invite you to set an intention as you begin your task, to deepen your connection to the process.

But what if I’m not crafty?

This will be an intentionally held workshop, where you will have the opportunity to examine your beliefs around crafting and creating things and what it means about you. Perhaps you have internalised beliefs about your ability to craft things or express yourself from what others have told you. Both Yo and Emilie use a framework of the birth imprint as a creative imprint (ie. how you were born impacts your creative process), which you are welcome to explore if that appeals to you.

Before and while you make your drum, we will invite you to consider such questions as:

• What happens before I start a project?

• How am I at beginning things?

• What happens while I am working on my project during the different stages of creation?

• How do I finish things?

• How do I look after things once I’ve finished them?
