If you like, you can see the Canva for Work features for yourself in this video: ?
Listen to the blog post here
1. Brand Kit
The Brand kit basically allows you to create an easy to access section in every design with your brand colours. This is great for me since I create designs for many brands in my Canva, so being able to access the brand colours for all of my clients in one easy click saves me heaps of time.
Canva for work also lets you upload custom fonts and create a folder of logos.
It will really depend on your level of usage as to whether this feature will make or break the deal for you.
2. Access to premium images and graphics
When you pay for Canva you get access to Canva’s library of premium images and vector illustrations.
This was not a deal-breaker for me because I am a huge fan of Unsplash for gorgeous, free photos and Creative Market for vector designs but I hardly use those two resources anymore. I seem to be able to get all I need in Canva lately.
Scratch that, I do still adore Unsplash for royalty-free, stock photography.
But, if you’re seeing a crown on some of the elements in Canva that you want to use or paying for them frequently, you might be better off paying for Canva for Work.
3. Transparent backgrounds in png
This feature is just a logo and website maker geek out I think but sometimes, you want to put your logo on a social media image without that white space behind it…you can do that if the background of your logo is transparent.
I don’t think I can explain it very well in words so check out the video if this isn’t making sense but basically, you can’t download your designs with a transparent background without the paid version – so if that matters to you as much as it does to me, you might want to pay for Canva.
4. Magic resize
This is one feature I really can’t live without and that I find saves me a lot of time.
If you create a design in one layout – for example as a Facebook post – and then you want to turn it into a Facebook header and an email header, you can do that with Canva for work in one click using the Resize option.
This is gold. Check out the video for a demonstration.
5. Access premium fonts
When you have Canva for work you can upload a custom font and use it inside your Canva designs.
This is really helpful if you are using an unusual or custom font that isn’t available in the Canva selection.
If you are creating a design and you like the look of the fonts with a crown beside them, you might be seeking more from the basic font selection.
Personally, I recommend that brands stick to a Google font for website and branding to make it easy but if you want to stand out in the font world, you might like to play around with some premium fonts.

Personally, I use Canva nearly every day and I like it (mostly). Sometimes, we have a little quarrel (which may involve me losing a whole document of design work and wanting to throw my laptop at the wall) but mostly, I remember to click save and we get along alright.
If you are a proper graphic designer you are probably not going to like Canva and you should just go back to Adobe. But for the rest of us, Canva is a great, free option to get our online designs created.

Why I’m never busy
“How are you?”“I’m so busy” This is the most common line I hear in conversation especially with business people and mums. It’s definitely a thing I used to say a lot and now I try not to say it at all. If I feel like I am about to say “I’m busy” I take a moment to...
Spam comments on your WordPress website: what to do and why I don’t get them
Do you get emails about comments on your website that are clearly spammy? Spam is unsolicitied messages, comments with links that don't relate authentically to what you are sharing about or inapropriate content - I usually get a good mix of Viagara, porn, gambling and...
Are You Creative?
Are you creative? I pose this question to you for reflection. I have my own opinion about it. If you are alive you are creative. If you are in business you are creative. The old paradigm of our society tells us that creative people make art and then that art gets...
Thanks so much!
Nice! I am mostly happy with it too – what a gift!
Thanks for the blog. It’s helped me to realise that I do too little on Canva to warrant the paid version. Plus since I am on your DFY services, I can ask you to create that stuff for me. Easy peasy!
Thanks for this timely article, I have just switched over to a paid Canva account and am enjoying the extra benefits. It’s super useful free OR paid, but seems to be making my marketing/branding easier so I am happy with that! Cheers
